Comcast California Hosts Inaugural Digital Equity Summit in San Francisco

Today, Comcast hosted a Digital Equity Summit in San Francisco. The gathering brought together more than 100 executives, program directors, community leaders, public officials, and other key stakeholders from around the Golden State working to close the digital divide and create digital equity. The goals of the summit were to highlight best practices; learn more about the current and future needs of vulnerable communities; and identify challenges, solutions, and available funding resources. The summit also served as a moment to celebrate the work of Comcast’s valued digital equity partners across California, who worked throughout the pandemic to help drive Internet adoption and provide digital literacy training for those in need. In addition, the company announced it has exceeded its expanded goal to launch 1,250 Lift Zones before the end of this year. Comcast’s award-winning Lift Zones program provides free WiFi access in neighborhood community centers nationwide. Since September 2020, Lift Zones have enabled nearly 6 million free WiFi user sessions for students, veterans, seniors, and adults. According to a consumer survey of users who visited a Lift Zone: 4 in 10 report they would not have had Internet access without the Lift Zone. 50% of low-income households in major Comcast markets are within walking distance of a Lift Zone. 58% of Lift Zone users strongly believe that the site helps them achieve more. 58% report the Lift Zone reduces stress with studying, working remotely, and/or managing tasks online. 56% say the Lift Zone is critical for success at school, work, and/or managing tasks online. 92 percent of sites report that being a Lift Zone helps them increase digital equity in their communities. The Lift Zones program is part of Comcast’s Project UP – a comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and build a future of unlimited possibilities. Ready for Ron (RFR), the only credible organization working to draft Governor Ron DeSantis to run for President, filed a lawsuit against the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The action, brought in the U.S. District Court for D.C., follows the FEC issuing an Advisory Opinion to prevent Ready for Ron from sharing with Governor DeSantis the names of those who signed a petition encouraging him to challenge Joe Biden. The lawsuit states in part, “…RFR wishes to provide its signed petition, including names and contact information provided by its signatories, to Governor DeSantis—a traditional form of political expression and association. The Commission has issued an advisory opinion concluding the Federal Election Campaign Act (“FECA”) prohibits RFR from doing so…” Prominent Republican campaign finance attorney Dan Backer recently argued before the FEC and submitted three detailed Public Comments to the FEC supporting Ready for Ron’s request, to share the list of supporters with DeSantis both before and during a potential candidacy – as an act of Constitutionally protected political speech. The arguments cited binding D.C. Circuit Court precedent, legislative history, and the FEC’s own administrative precedents. “The FEC would stop Ready For Ron from sharing a petition – the quintessential form of free speech – unless we also charged for it,” argued Backer. “Act Blue does the same thing we propose – sharing support names and contact information on a vastly larger scale – tens of millions of individuals – while funneling a billion and a half dollars a cycle”. “The FEC is fine with Act Blue doing this to support Biden, as long as money is involved, but when the speech is free or bad for Biden, suddenly it must be suppressed,” Backer continued. The lawsuit further states, “…RFR’s fundamental First Amendment rights to engage in political speech and expressive political association have been violated by the FEC’s response to RFR’s advisory opinion request and the reasonable prospect of prosecution if RFR provides its signed petition to Governor DeSantis…” “We are disappointed some on the FEC are again standing in the way of political speech and freedom of association. Millions of Americans want Ron DeSantis to run. Signing their names to Ready for Ron’s draft petition is the ultimate act of political free speech and association, and there is simply no basis for saying they cannot give those names to the Governor if – and when – he heeds their call and runs. It is disappointing that this litigation is necessary, but we are eager to protect our Free Speech and encourage DeSantis to seek the Presidency. We are confident we will prevail,” Backer continued. “We have before in taking on the FEC, and surely will again.” Since its launch in late May, Ready for Ron has garnered nearly 100,000 petition signers, generated significant media attention, and run hundreds of ads to help convince Ron DeSantis to run for President. Sales of apparel, footwear and accessories catapulted in 2021, hitting $180.5 billion in the U.S. alone. The sector is expected to grow by 13% this year, with consumers set to spend $204.9 billion on fashion items online. Eliminating A Challenge For Growth Even though there seem to be great prospects for the industry, growth can be hampered if people still face frustrations in buying online — imagine receiving items, like garments, that don’t fit? Receiving an ill-fitting garment can be frustrating and can leave the customer unsatisfied. Correct sizing is key to growth, building consumer confidence in the purchase and reducing costly returns. MySize Inc. (NASDAQ: MYSZ) says its MySizeID product is the solution. But the company, an omnichannel e-commerce platform and provider of an artificial intelligence (AI) measurement solution that drives revenue growth and reduces costs for its clients, also reports pioneering a different technology that could change the hybrid shopping experience. MySize’s FirstLook Smart Mirror could be one of the first solutions for challenges with hybrid shopping — an emerging trend that combines online and in-store shopping. The company says the product is an interactive, mirrorlike touch display that offers: Personalized fit and product recommendations 3D try-it-on interactive avatar experience Speed shopping and self-checkout Integration with any third-party point-of-sales (POS) system High Valuations And Revenues MySize believes its algorithm-based technology has broad applications — that could match if not beat product offerings from competitors. Just as LivePerson Inc. (NASDAQ: LPSN) hit a $4 billion valuation at 10 times revenue with a chat application that transformed e-commerce by increasing conversion rates and decreasing costs, sizing technology is gaining traction to do the same, the company says. As comparable companies are acquired by major players such as Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP), Gap Inc. (NYSE: GPS), Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and Zalando SE (ETR: ZAL) at attractive valuations, MySize notes it could also attract the same level of attention and be an acquisition target. Luckily, a recent report of record revenues in the first half of the year could support the premise that MySize has the right product and business in a high-growth segment. Retailers Taking Notice MySize’s technology has been adopted by top brands in fashion such as Levi Strauss & Co. (NYSE: LEVI), Nautica, Gant and Dockers, and it doesn’t look like the company is resting on its laurels. From all indications, MySize may only be getting started as more companies are adopting its technology, which could be ideally timed with growth in the fashion e-commerce boom. The company recently announced an agreement with 7 For All Mankind (Brazil), a premium global clothing brand, to license MySizeID, and it could be going live in the third quarter of this year. MySize also has an agreement with luxury British fashion brand Temperley London to license MySizeID. MiSize kicked off the year by acquiring Orgad, an omnichannel e-commerce platform. MySize hopes the acquisition and incorporation of MySizeID into Orgad’s e-commerce solution will increase its profit by reducing costly returns. MySize, Inc.
